BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT NEKEDE Nekede is a small community in South-Eastern Nigeria. It is located near the city of Owerri of Imo State. This is an Igbo speaking town that is made up it three distinct villages, viz Umuoma, Umualum and Umudibia (Federal Polytechnic Nekede). This town also hosts the Imo State New owerri capital. The Federal University of Technology is 20 minutes drive from Nekede. It lies on the Junction of the Nworie River and the Otamiri rivers, the population of Nekede is fast developing due to the citing of the institution (Federal Polytechnic Nekede). It is almost split into two by the Otamiri River whose course from Egbu in oweeri North Local Government Area of Imo State. According to history Ede Ochie first inhabitant Nekede where a friend of his called Oma, Sojourned with him. A situation arose where Oma out of his own volition accepted to taste a strange root crop to know whether it is fit for human consumption. By so doing, he proved that it was edible and was so granted a permanent residency for attempting such as feat. Nekede today lies on the South West portion of Owerri Municipal of Imo State. LAND USE CATEGORIES IN NEKEDE Land use categories in Nekede is just the same with most Igbo communities but because of development in Nekede community, there is now open alienation of land. Land fragmentation and the transformation of communal ownership to individual and private holdings. During the recent years, there has been an increase in the area due to non-agricultural uses, as expected, because as a result of increase in the development activities, more and more land is being used for industrial sites, housing, transport system, recreational purposes, irrigation system agricultural purpose, commercial recreational etc. The different land use pattern in Nekede are as follows: 1) Commercial land use 2) Residential land use 3) Agricultural land use 4) Industrial land use 5) Educational land use 6) Recreational land use - Commercial land use: Some lands in Nekede as used for building markets facilities, business centres, shops, warehouses, retail filling stations, banks etc. - Residential land use: land is used in Nekede for building of different types of houses ranging from traditional to morden types. This is the major form of land use in Nekede because it commands higher value. The presence of Federal polytechnic has influence many developers to invest in real property (ie building of hostels accommodation). - Agricultural Land Use: Land use for agriculture is the very small portion of land in Nekede and has been put for their better and best use, therefore is little land for agriculture for the cultivation of crops and rearing of animals. - Industrial land use: This is the production of goods and services e.g the industrial cluster in Naze along Nekede junction. A large portion of land has been portion out for development. - educational land use: for example, Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri, National Open University, Bethel seminary all in Nekede. General culture, perceived resources LITERATURE REVIEW Lotfi and Solamimani (2009) state that there is a general culture, perceived resources in the content of their environment, values and experiences (camptield, 2005). Agreement among researches that are two linked objectives and subjective indicators are designed to dimension to the concept of quality of life, namely a measure quality of life indicators used by Discoli (2006) psychological one

  2. Fedral polytechnic Nekede owerri is among the best polytechnics in Nigeria. The school is very compititive in many aspect in academics.
